The Cards.
Ok, so this is my favorite. Since learning about the cards, I have become a bit obsessed. I’ve seen so many insane correlations and connections between the cards and what’s going on in my life and the lives of those around me.
When I say “the cards”, I’m referring to an ancient card system described in the books Cards of Your Destiny and Love Cards by Robert Lee Camp. This is a sacred system of reading our basic playing card deck that hadn’t been written about much until it was described in detail in The Mystic Test Book (Richmond, 1893). You can actually view this book full-text here. It has tons of illustrations and detailed mathematical equations (that I’ll admit are WAY over my head), and it goes through the history of the cards in incredible detail.
The basis of the card system is that each day is assigned a card from the traditional 52-card set. The card on your birthday becomes your Birth Card, and it explains different aspects of your personality (much like the traditional zodiac). Depending on your zodiac sign, you’ll also have a Planetary Ruling Card which is equally a part of your personality as your birth card. Each birth card has various “Karma Cards” which show different connections to people with those cards and can also be interpreted as things you are meant to work on in this lifetime. You also have a Life Spread that shows different cards during different years of your life, predicting certain energies or situations that might present themselves.
This is a great site to figure out what your birth card is and see your life spread. It also has a lot of other info on the cards. It’s by a different author of the cards than the book I own and have been reading, but she seems to be just as knowledgeable and credible and Camp.
Love Cards by Camp is really interesting because it shows the connections that you have with people of various cards. It’s meant to be used to help you “find your soul-mate” and see what people you have good connections with, but it’s also great to use to see the connections you have with friends and family, and you can even use it to see who you should or should not go into business with. I’ll admit – when I bought this book, I was nose-deep in it for four hours looking up my connections with everyone I know (ha!). It’s all so interesting!!
The first thing you should do if the Cards interest you (and if you have a smart phone) is to buy the app Destiny Cards for three bucks. It was developed by Robert Lee Camp and works like a daily horoscope. You find out your Birth Card, then you have a Yearly Card, a 52-Day Card, and a Daily Card. It’s really interesting to see how the cards line up with certain things going on in your life. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. (Or they do and you just don’t realize it yet.) But regardless, it gives you a perspective from which you can view your life and then choose how you’re going to respond to certain things that may happen.
Like I said, the cards are my favorite. And if you’ve spent time with me lately, you know that. They’re my favorite because I’ve seen SO many cosmic connections between this ancient system and real-life things that are happening now. I’ve been compiling a list of all the little “coincidences” I see within the cards and my life and the lives of those around me. I thought I’d share some from that list with you to help you see the divine knowledge these cards may hold.
- A friend of mine got married and pregnant while she had a Queen of Hearts (The Loving Mother) as her yearly card. This card clearly signifies becoming and wife and/or mother. Or at least that some sort of nurturing or feminine love will be expressed.
- Another friend of mine got married while she had the Queen of Hearts as her 52-day card.
- Another friend’s fiance had a baby while he had the King of Hearts (The Loving Father) as his 52-day card.
- One of my best friends went into labor and gave birth on a day when she had the Ace of Hearts as her daily card. The Ace of Hearts (The Search for Love) denotes the birth of a child. (This might be my favorite example because it was all just so perfect!)
- My nephew was born this past fall and is an Eight of Diamonds, which happens to be my sister’s yearly card that started just two weeks before he was born. So of course, her next year would be all about him!
- When my younger brother returned home from deployment in Afghanistan, I was interested to see if the cards in any way “predicted” his arrival. After some research, I found that both my mom and grandma’s Daily Cards for the day he came home (they were there for his arrival) were the King of Clubs, which is my brother’s birth card! And, my dad’s daily card that day was the King of Hearts – The Loving Father Card. Pretty cool, right??!
- I’ve had other cases where my daily card is the card of a friend or family member that I happened to spend time with that day. Last spring, I had a day where I reconnected with my friend (/ex-boss) after several months of distance and tension. I went home that night and checked the cards to find that he was my card for the day! Another day, I babysat the boys’ little brother, and again, I noticed that night that my daily card was his birth card.
- As for my own life, I’ve noticed the cards denote more of my emotional and mental states than anything. For example, last spring when I was going through a rough time of releasing the past and figuring out who I was, I had the Nine of Spades as a 52-day card, which signals natural endings and new beginnings.
- And most recently, I found out I was pregnant on a Ten of Diamonds day – which is the Wish Come True card!
I’ll admit that I don’t know everything about this ancient system. I don’t know exactly how it works or from where it originates. And I suppose all the above examples could just be coincidences. But I choose to believe. I think life is more fun that way.
I feel like I should have a disclaimer when discussing all this astrology stuff. I’m not saying that astrology should rule your life or that all of life’s mysteries can be revealed or that the future can be predicted through the study of the stars and the cards. There’s been many times I’ve look at my horoscope or cards and seen no correlation between them and what’s going on in my life. There’s been other times where I’ve studied my astrology and thought that I had it all figured out and knew exactly how certain things were going to pan out, and then I was completely wrong. Instead of letting it rule your life (which can make you go a little crazy), I think it’s best used as a tool – a tool to help you learn more about yourself and process different things that are going on in your life. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. In my opinion, it’s a system that civilizations have used for ages. It’s caught a lot of flack over the last century or so due to either the religious right considering it “witchcraft” or “sorcery” or because those in power don’t want the common person to know about such a powerful, influential system. (Again, in my humble opinion. 😉 ) I hope that the truth and value found in astrology becomes more well-known and accepted. I think it’s a divine, magical system put in place by the heavens to help guide and direct us during our time here on earth. But again, I think it’s more fun to believe than not believe. 🙂
In the spirit of the stars and the cards,
~Love and Light~
