Ok, I just can’t handle it anymore.
The idiocracy. The ignorance. The fear-mongering. The hate.
I use to be able to just brush it off, chalk it up to a simple disagreement and move on.
But, I don’t know…something has gotten into me. I’m all passionate and filled with an almost rage to speak my truth. I’ve never really been a political person, but now it’s all I seem to think about.
But it’s not to argue who’s right or wrong. It’s not to gain power or influence. Not to manipulate or control. It’s simply to spread a message of love.
I saw the following cartoon today, and it really spoke to me. It seems to frame the bottom line of my message perfectly:
I don’t care about a candidate’s political party or policies. I don’t care about what they plan to do or plan not to do. I don’t care about how they spend their personal money or what they’re willing to do for free. I don’t care about how candidates plan to fund their people-friendly policies. (Have you seen the defense budget and corporate subsidies? There’s plenty of money to go around.)
What I do care about is a candidate’s ability to love. In all they say. In all they do. In the message they spread.
This cartoon sums it up perfectly.
It’s no secret that our world is going to shit (for lack of a better phrase). Ecologically. Economically. Spiritually. Emotionally. There is more hate and corruption in this world than ever before. So many hearts are filled with darkness, sadness, and hate.
I do believe the Universe is reaching somewhat of an “end of times” like the Bible describes. (Sidenote: Have you seen these videos about crazy noises coming out of the sky? Sounds like trumpets. Pretty crazy…) Evil has had its grip on our reality for too long, and it’s time for a change. I believe a huge shift is inevitably coming, whether it’s within this generation or in years to come. Something’s gonna give and a revolution will occur. It’s only natural in the regular cycles of life.
So, all that being said, it’s going to be very important that we all act with as much love as possible. Love and unity are going to be the only things to get us through the tough times ahead. Love and unity based on the humanity we all share.
Which of the candidates acts on the foundation of love? Who loves more? I have an overwhelming feeling that every political decision Bernie Sanders will make will be based on love and the good of the people. This is evident in his political history and the stances he’s taken, and it’s evident in simply examining the type of person he is.
It’s no lie that Donald Trump is an arrogant douchebag. (I was going to search for a better term to describe him, but whatevs, this fits.) He’s said terrible things about women, immigrants, Muslims, and pretty much anyone who’s not him. Are those words founded in love?
Honestly, I don’t see how any Christian can support someone like Donald Trump. Jesus’ message, the whole point of the gospel and Bible, is to share love. Unconditional agape love. We are told to live like Jesus, and what did Jesus do? Jesus loved. In all things. No matter how rough they got. No matter how many mouths he had to feed. No matter how he was treated. He loved. And he told us to love just as much, that it was one of the most important things we are to do.
Donald Trump does not represent love. He represents everything about the ego. And I have no problem calling you out and saying you’re a bad Christian if you support a man who says such things and holds such values. Because they are not Christian values.
So WWJD? He’d vote for Bernie Sanders. Not a doubt in my mind.
Something else struck a chord with me today that led to this outburst of expression. A friend of mine posted something her 12 year old daughter said about the Syrian refugees. She said that we should help the homeless in our country first before we open our doors to refugees and that we must “keep American safe” and that it was the “right thing to do.”
Well, let’s see, some cities have made it illegal to help the homeless, so there’s that. Also, the Republicans keep voting for decreased funding for social welfare programs, so how is that helping the homeless or those trying to get back on their feet? And, though they may be homeless, at least most of them can sleep safely in the street without fear of being bombed, gunned down, raped, or captured, so it’s not the best comparison to people whose homes and towns have been destroyed and overtaken, to those whose children thirst and starve without it being their fault. These are innocent people, God’s children, whose lives have been taken away from them. Where’s the love and compassion?
In regards to our need to “keep Americans safe,” you’re equating that refugees = Muslims and Muslims = terrorists, which is all sorts of wrong. Again, going back to the Christian ideological thought process of “WWJD?,” Jesus would welcome these refugees with open arms. If you think otherwise, you are not acting Christlike.
What do you have to fear from these refugees? Does God not tell us we have nothing to fear? Does it not say that if God is for us, who can be against us? Or that the light will drown out the darkness? What do we have to fear? Nothing.
So we should open our arms to all who need them, trusting that God will provide and protect all, that our love will drive out any fear or evil.
If any real change is going to come to this country, we HAVE to unite and let every action we take be based on love – love for ourselves, love for world, love for our neighbors, and love for our country.
What’s my political party? LOVE.
